Strike by Ola, Uber To Seek Government Action on Their Demands

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the economy has faced some serious falls because of which many people are unemployed andsuffering financially. Listed under this category are also the Ola and Uber cab drivers.

Kamaljeet Singh Gill, the president of the Sarvodaya Drivers Association of Delhi said that many of the drivers are facing problems even to feed their families at this time and have no means to fulfill their financial obligations.

He said that "Due to the acute financial crisis caused by lockdown, drivers are unable to pay their EMIs. The moratorium of loan repayment ended today, and the banks are already putting pressure on us. Drivers are scared that banks will tow away their vehicles for not paying EMIs.”

The drivers of the cab decided to strike near Himachal Bhawan at Mandi House recently to seek government action on their demands.

Gill said that the drivers are demanded that fare should be hiked, and commission increased by Ola and Uber. The fare should be fixed by the government instead of the cab aggregators. They also demanded the extension of the moratorium on loan.

Around 2 lakh drivers decided to go strike in Delhi-NCR. As we know metro services are yet not resumed and most of the commuters will face problems in reaching their destination as public transportation is also running at reduced capacity.

Ignorance is not bliss: Okhla Waste to Energy Plant needs to be relocated, residents argue

Questions on the suitability of waste-to-energy plants in Delhi are not new, but the 2,000 tonnes per day Waste to Energy (WTE) plant, situated in the middle of the dense residential areas around Sukhdev Vihar, is not just a major environmental worry but an example of how siting rules can be bent to accommodate a heavily polluting enterprise.
