Due to the hike in COVID-19 cases in the Union Territory, the demand for clinical equipment has immensely increased which has prompted hoarding and black marketing. In recent days, the Delhi Police has arrested many people who were engaged in hoarding and black marketing of clinical equipment.
Recently, the Delhi Police on Friday (7/05/2021) recovered 96 oxygen concentrators from Khan Chacha, a famous and age-old eatery in the Khan Market area of the capital. The oxygen concentrators were packed in brown cartons.
Navneet Kalra who is the owner of Khan Chacha restaurant and a well-known businessman owns a chain of properties in the khan market.
According to the report, Navneet Kalra, was purportedly storing oxygen concentrators and contacting the COVID-19 patients and their family members, and selling them the oxygen concentrators at a higher rate. The malpractice had been continuing for a long time as highlighted on Friday when the Police raided the eatery.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Atul Thakur said that the restaurant has been sealed while the Police are trying to follow the owner and get more information about the whole incident.
Further, DCP Atul Thakur said that this raid at Khan chacha restaurant has conducted after the recovery of 419 oxygen concentrators from the bar at Lodhi road area.
Along with this, Delhi police seized 10 medical oxygen concentrators, along with 82 plastic pipes used in them, 3486 digital thermometers, 263 digital gun thermometers, 684 oximeters, and 10 nebulizers captured in this connection. Both accused disclosed that they were selling this life-saving equipment at higher rates.
