A day after Bollywood singer Kanika Kapoor explained the controversies regarding her testing corona-positive in an Instagram post, the Lucknow Police pasted a notice outside her house, asking her to officially record her statement.

She has been charged under Section 269 of the Indian Penal Code (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) and Section 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) of the Indian Penal Code.

Deepak Kumar SinghAssistant Commissioner of Police, Krishna Nagar said that the 42- year-old singer will have to come to the police station and give her written statement and that further action against her will be taken after that.

On 26th April 2020, Kanika wrote a post on Instagram and expressed her gratitude to the medical workers who treated her while she was infected with the coronavirus. She also wrote that several stories and rumors were being spread by the media and that some information was misrepresented and portrayed her in a bad light.

Her post read, “I know there are several versions of stories out there about me. Some of these seem to be fueled even more because I have chosen to be silent until now. I stayed quiet not because I am wrong but in-fact being fully aware that there have been misunderstandings and wrong exchanges of information. I was giving time for the truth to prevail and for people to reach their own realization. I thank my family, friends, and supporters for allowing me the space to talk when am ready. I hope and pray that you all are safe and being careful during this time.”

According to Kanika, she arrived in Mumbai on March 10, 2020, from the United Kingdom. After her arrival, she was scanned at the international airport. No advisory had been issued that required her to quarantine herself until then.

She traveled to Lucknow to meet her family and friends on March 11, 2020, when there were no scanning protocols in place for domestic flights. On March 14, 2020, and March 15, 2020, Kanika Kapoor had lunch and dinner with her friends where it is suspected that she may have infected more people with COVID-19.

She pointed out in her statement that all the people she had interacted within the United Kingdom, Mumbai as well as Lucknow are in good health and their reports have also turned out to be negative. Kanika’s sixth coronavirus test came out negative on April 6, 2020 following which she was discharged from the hospital.

Meanwhile, positive cases have risen to 33,050 in the country, 8325 have recovered and 1074 have succumbed to the deadly virus to date.
