NCW Registers Complaint Of DU Student Komal Sharma Against News Channel: JNU Attacks

The National Commission for Women has registered a complaint by Delhi University student, Komal Sharma against a news channel for allegedly defaming her by identifying her as one of the attackers in the JNU violence.

In the complaint she wrote, When I saw the video I was astonished and was at an utter shock that Mr. Rahul Kanwal as well as India Today & Aaj Tak has destroyed my reputation and entire career. I hereby make it clear that I am not the lady in the alleged video and some cooked-up story is planned against me in order to satisfy the ulterior motives best known to above said persons & the above said channel. Kindly take as well as India Today & Aaj Tak as per law.

The video showcases Sharma as one of the attackers who vandalized JNU, New Delhi. She also wrote, No proof let alone clear evidence has been sought by the above-said channels nor I received any calls from the above-said channels confirming from me or from the persons I am connected with that whether I am the same lady in mask/scarf in the alleged video.

On January 5, 2020, miscreants wearing masks with covered faces armed with weapons entered the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus and incited violence against the students and professors which ultimately led to a huge support from the civil society.

The police have so far issued notices to nine accused asking them to join the investigation into the JNU violence. Seven out of the nine suspects are from Left organisations. Out of the seven accused, three - JNUSU President Aishe Gosh, Bhaskar Vijay and Pankaj joined the investigation on Monday (January 13, 2020).
