A circular issued on February 13, 2020 by Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) stated that now A4 size papers with print on both sides can be used in Supreme Court in all filings. Currently legal-size papers are used for filing and papers are printed on only one side.
In a meeting of Honble judges of the committee for Rationalization of Use of Papers in the Supreme Court of India and with members of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and the Supreme Court Advocates on Record Association (SCAORA) took this decision to conserve natural resources and to protect environment and also keeping in mind their goal to introduce paperless courts.
As countless number of papers are being utilized in filing which was causing great harm to environment as papers are made from trees and for the same, trees have to be cut down.
SCBA Secretary Ashok Arora confirmed that such double-sided documents can be filed hereon. The measure may also be made mandatory in due course of time.
The circular also intimates that recent amendments made with respect to the filing of caveats have been rectified. Arora informed that a decision had been taken to do away with recent amendments that had made the process of filing caveats more cumbersome.
