Judging is My Life, It is the Best Way to Spend My Birthday : Justice DY Chnadrachud While Hearing Arnab Goswami's Plea for Release

The vacation bench of Justice Chandrachud & Justice Indira Banerjee assembled today (12th October, 2020) in Supreme Court to hear the matter on Arnab Goswamis plea for release. During the hearing, some riveting exchanges were made in the full day session.

It also happened to be Justice DY Chandrachuds birthday today. (12th October, 2020).

When the marathon hearing got over, Senior Advocate Harish Salve in a light manner, remarked that this was perhaps the worst way to spend ones birthday. To this Justice Chandrachud smiled and said,

NO no! This is actually the best way to spend it. I am in court judging and it is my life. I love it!.

While passing the order for grant of bail, Justice Chandrachud made noteworthy remark to Senior Counsel Kapil Sibbal appearing from State of Maharashtra, Assuming the FIR is the gospel truth and thats a matter of investigation but is not paying up money abetment to suicide? It will be a travesty of justice if bail is not granted while FIR is pending Mr. Sibal, he said.

Mr. Chandrachud further observed that personal liberty of a citizen had nothing to do with their style or ideology of working.

He stated, Whatever be his ideology, left to myself I dont even watch his channel, but if in this case, constitutional courts do not interfere today we are traveling the path of destruction undeniably. Justice DY Chandrachud said, We must send a message across to the High Court today, please exercise your jurisdiction to uphold personal liberty!

Justice Chandrachud, while commenting on Indian Democracy stated, I never watch his channel. I never turn it on. I must say our democracy is extraordinarily resilient. Government must ignore all this. This is not the basis on which elections are fought.
