The
Delhi High Court recently issued a Practice Direction on Tuesday (March 16, 2021). This direction stated that from April 1, 2021, A4 size paper shall be used for all kinds of pleadings contained in applications, petitions or affidavits along with other documents and memorandum of appeals, judgement and orders in the High Court as well as the District Courts in Delhi.
This direction was issued under Section 123 of CrPC by the Chief Justice of the Delhi Court on recommendations of the Rules Committee. This said committee had also framed the Delhi High Court (Original Side) Rules, 2018. It takes note of other ancillary matters.
It was observed in the Direction:
A4 size paper be used uniformly in all jurisdictions for all kind of pleadings contained in petitions, affidavits, applications or other documents etc and all memorandum of appeals, orders and judgments in the High Court as well as in all District Courts of Delhi."
It has further been stated in the said Direction that the printing/typing must be on one side of the A4 size paper till further directions are issued.
Lastly, it also laid down the specifications of the paper and formatting style of the A4 size paper as: "A4 size paper (29.7 cm X 21 cm) having not less than 75 GSM with font – Times New Roman, font size 14, in 1.5 line spacing (for quotations and indent – font size 12 in single line spacing), with margin of 4 cm on left & right and 2 cm on top & bottom."
