DGCA issues show cause notice to IndiGo & Mumbai Airport

New Delhi: After a video of passengers eating on the tarmac at Mumbai Airport went viral on social media, the Minister of Civil Aviation has issued show-cause notices to Indigo and Mumbai Airport.

Union Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia reportedly held a meeting with all ministry officials at midnight. In the early hours of Tuesday, MoCA's Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) issued show-cause notices to Indigo and Mumbai Airport.

According to media reports, the ministry noted that “both Indigo and MIAL (Mumbai International Airport Limited) were not proactive in anticipating the situation and making the appropriate facilitation arrangements for passengers at the airport”.

"IndiGo is in receipt of a show cause notice from MoCA's Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) with regard to flight 6E 2195 from Goa to Delhi, diverted to Mumbai on January 14, 2024. IndiGo has already initiated an internal enquiry to address the issue and will be responding to the notice as per protocol," Indigo said in a statement.

Notably, in the widely shared video, travellers on an IndiGo Goa-Delhi flight were seen eating on the airport tarmac at Mumbai Airport. The flight took off from Goa but could not land at the Delhi airport owing to dense fog and as such was diverted to the Mumbai airport.
