On September 29, 2020, the first episode of the popular show, Kaun Banega Crorepati was aired, but over the weekend the show landed into controversy.
The controversy was created after Amitabh Bachchan asked a question related to Manusmirti in the Karamveer episode. The episode had social activist Bezwada Wilson and actor Anoop Soni came as guests.
The question for Rs6, 40,000 was, On 25 December 1927, Dr. BR Ambedkar and his followers burned copies of which scripture? The options given were, a) Vishnu Purana, b) Bhagavad Gita c) Rigdev and d) Manusmirti. After announcing the answer Amitabh Bachchan said in Hindi that in the year 1927 Dr. BR Ambedkar condemned the ancient Hindu text of Manusmirtiand also burned copies of it. The question did not go well with the social media users and they started trending #BoycottKBC right after the clip of the show went viral on the internet. An FIR was also lodged against Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) and Amitabh Bachchan in Lucknow for hurting the sentiments of people.
