IRS officer Sameer Wankhede's surprise move: Joining BJP or staying put? Find out!

By Harshvardhan Sharma      05 April, 2023 11:30 PM      0 Comments

Sameer Wankhede, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer from the 2008 batch, has made headlines again after his recent visit to the Nagpur headquarters of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological parent organization of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This visit has sparked rumors that Wankhede is joining the BJP. However, when questioned by ABP News, Wankhede responded that he went to the RSS headquarters, not the headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Wankhede is no stranger to controversy, having made headlines for his strict enforcement of customs and service tax regulations, as well as his work as an officer in the Narcotics Control Bureau in Mumbai. He has taken action against more than 200 Bollywood personalities for tax evasion, educated them about the law, and collected crores of rupees in service tax for the government. His strict approach has also led to the seizure of drugs worth 20 thousand crores and action against more than a dozen celebrities.

Wankhede was born on December 14, 1979, in Mumbai to a retired Senior Police Inspector in the Excise Department and a respected social worker. He inherited his mother's strong personality and determination, which led him to become a customs officer at Mumbai International Airport. Unlike other officers who would request autographs from Bollywood celebrities, Wankhede made sure that no actor or actress could leave without paying the required fees.

Wankhede's tenure as an officer in the Narcotics Control Bureau in Mumbai became a blessing for his life. This strict officer also worked in his own style here. He seized drugs worth 20 thousand crores in one go and took action against more than a dozen celebrities.

While speaking about his rumored entry into the BJP, Wankhede said that speaking anything on the issue would be hasty at the moment. However, he did mention that in his childhood, he used to go to the branches of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The RSS is a Hindu nationalist, paramilitary, and self-help organization in India.

Wankhede is currently the Director of the Service Tax in Chennai. His fearless approach towards enforcing laws has made him a popular figure among the Indian public. It remains to be seen how his rumored entry into politics will affect his career as a government officer.
