Raveena Tandon Faces Mob Threats Over False Allegation CCTV Footage Proves Her Innocence

MUMBAI: Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon found herself a nick away from getting lynched by a mob, after a burqa-clad lady falsely accused Tandon and her driver of hitting her with their car in Mumbai.

Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon and her driver were falsely accused of hitting a burqa-clad woman with their car in Mumbai.

The allegation led to a mob surrounding, threatening and harassing Tandon, shouting 'maaro isko' (hit her), even as Tandon was seen pleading in videos circulating online to be spared.

A CCTV footage of the area where the accident allegedly occurred came to Tandon's rescue, later clarifying that no such incident had occurred in reality and that the lady's allegations were false.

With the case follows closely on the heels of the Pune Porsche case where a drunk teen in a BMW ran over two techies, killing them, the Maharashtra Police were prompt to respond to the situation.

Mumbai Police clarified that Tandon was not drunk and that a false complaint had been filed against her.

DCP Rajtilak Roshan has been quoted as stating that, "Nobody was injured in this incident. We checked the CCTV footage, and the car did not hit anyone. The actress was not drunk."

Infact the actress was not even in the car, as per the statement, " The complainant gave a false complaint in the alleged video. We checked the entire CCTV footage of the society and found that the actress' driver was reversing the car from the road into the society when this family was crossing the same lane."

The family is said to have stopped the car, asking him to check for people before reversing.

This developed into an argument, escalating into 'abusive language', with Tandon arriving to the spot to handle the situation.  With Tandon attempting to "protect the driver from the mob", the mob "started abusing her".

Written complaints were given and subsequently withdrawn by both parties.

The incident has also sparked outrage on social media, with some calling for a police investigation over the motivations for such a false allegation against Tandon.

Some have even suggested that Tandon had been falsely accused by the lady to malign her image, due to her ideological beliefs and pro-nationalist stand on ongoing political and cultural issues.

A user on X posted on his handle, "Could there be a chronology behind Raveena Tandon getting attacked?" with pictures suggesting Tandon's pro-right wing stand on issues, including Tandon was celebrating the Ram Mandir inauguration and refraining from participating in the "All Eyes on Rafah" campaign.

Social media users have also pointed out Bollywood actress and BJP leader Kangana Ranaut's support to Tandon on the issue, while other Bollywood celebrities remain silent.
