Court sentences former Congress MP Annu Tandon to 2 years in jail for blocking train during protest

Former MP from Unnao, Annu Tandon wassentenced to two-year in jail in connection with a case of blocking a train in Unnao during a political agitation in 2017.  Along with her were 4 others awarded the same sentence & slapped with a fine of Rs 25,000 each for stopping a train for 12 minutes in 2017 while holding a demonstration in her parliamentary constituency.

After stopping the train they jumped over the engine & raised anti-government slogans. The RPF & the police, somehow, managed to take them off from the train to allow it to move further to its destination. The demonstration caused a 12 minutes delay & harassment to passengers. It is perhaps the first case where a former MP was awarded two years punishment & slapped fine for train roko demonstration. The former Congress MP has now joined the Samajwadi Party. Annu Tandon is the wife of late Sandeep Tandon, ex-IRS, & a close associate business tycoon Mukesh Ambani. After the probe, Sub-Inspector Mithlesh Kumar Yadav filed a charge sheet against the accused under Section 174(A) of Railway Act, 1989.

The special court took cognisance of the offence on August 2, 2018 and started trial.
