DJ Shot Dead in Ranchi Bar Dispute Captured on CCTV

Ranchi: A DJ was fatally shot following a dispute at a bar in Ranchi, Jharkhand, in the early hours of May 27. The incident was captured on a surveillance camera. The shooting occurred around 1 AM at Extreme Sports Bar on Sunday night. Reports indicate that a group of 4-5 men got into an argument with DJ Sandeep and the bar staff over the music being played. Although the situation was initially defused and the group left, they returned after the bar closed and shot Sandeep.

CCTV footage captured the attack, showing a half-naked man wielding a rifle and firing at Sandeeps chest at point-blank range. The suspect then fled the scene. Bar employees immediately informed the police about the incident. Sandeep was rushed to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. The suspect has been identified as Abhishek Singh. Police have recovered a vehicle believed to belong to Singh, who runs a local garage.

The incident occurred at Extreme Sports Bar under Chutia police station in Ranchi.

Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Chandan Kumar Sinha said, A clash happened between customers and bouncers at the bar. It might be possible that one of those customers carried out this incident. We are searching for the culprits. The investigation is underway.

Providing further details on the incident, Hatia Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Pramod Mishra noted that the accused has been identified and has a previous criminal record.

Police officials, including the SSP, SP, City DSP, and officers in charge of Chutia and Kotwali police stations, have launched an extensive investigation. They are conducting CCTV surveillance and questioning other employees of the bar to gather more information about the incident.

This whole incident reminds one of the infamous murder case of Jessica Lal, where Manu Sharma shot dead model Jessica Lall after the 34-year-old refused to serve him liquor at the Tamarind Court restaurant owned by socialite Bina Ramani at Qutub Colonnade in south Delhis Mehrauli. When Jessica was rushed to Apollo Hospital, doctors declared her brought dead. Sharma, the son of former Haryana Congress leader Venod Sharma, was handed life imprisonment in the case.

The Dance Bar Regulation Bill, unanimously passed by the Maharashtra state assembly in 2016, banned serving liquor in performance areas and mandated that the premises must shut by 11:30 PM. It also imposed heavy penalties on dance bar owners and customers for not following these rules.

Should this law be applied to the whole country?
