Expressing dissatisfaction over the cleaning of river Ganga, National Green Tribunal said on Thursday (July 19th, 2018) that the situation was extremely bad and hardly any measure has been taken to clean it.
A bench headed by NGT chairperson Justice AK Goel said that despite claims made by the authorities, the work done for cleaning up the river Ganga was not at all adequate and regular monitoring is required to improve the situation.
The bench of Judges which also include Justice Jawad Rahim and Justice RS Rathore ordered to take a survey on the situation to seek views of common man and what they feel about the pollution in Ganga and the feedback can be given through mail of the concerned authorities.
During the hearing, the bench of Judges has also said “The situation is extraordinarily bad and we cannot accept that anything has been done. It is the most prestigious river in the country which 100 crore people respect but we are unable to protect it. Let us try to make the mechanism as strong and effective as possible.”
Earlier NGT had rapped National Mission for Clean Ganga for not filing a report on the steps taken by the Centre and the UP and Uttarakhand governments to clean the river in the stretch between Gomukh and Unnao.
