The Union Cabinet has accepted the Jammu and Kashmir Official Languages Bill 2020 where five languages are decided to be the official language of Jammu and Kashmir namely- Urdu, Kashmiri, Dogri, Hindi, and English as stated by the Union Minister Prakash Javadekar. He further added that the Bill will be soon introduced in the Parliament’s monsoon session.
The Union Minister, Prakash Javadekar also mentioned that the bill was approved based on public demand. Dr. Jitendra Singh (union minister) said, “Inclusion of Dogri, Hindi, and Kashmiri as official languages in Jammu and Kashmir is not just fulfillment of a long-pending public demand but also in keeping up with the spirit of equality ushered after August 5, 2019.” The Union Cabinet gave a briefing about the other decision taken where Javadekar said that the Union Cabinet has approved three Memorandum of Understandings with three different nations, one with the Textile Ministry and Japan for analyzing the quality evaluation method, second with the Mining Ministry and Finland and the third between Ministry of New & Renewable Energy and Denmark.
