Justice RR Tripathi appointed as Chairperson of Gujarat Human Rights Commission

Justice RR Tripathi Gujarat Human Rights Commission

A Retired Judge of Gujarat High Court Mr. Ravi R Tripathi has been appointed chairperson of the Gujarat State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), the publication of an official release from the Gujarat government on Thursday (September 3, 2020).

Mr. Tripathi, who has taken the charge, will hold the office for three years.

The official release states that earlier Justice (retired) Abhilasha Kumari was appointed as the chairperson of the Commission. However, she resigned from the post because her appointment was made by a member of the Lokpal Committee of India by the President of India. Since then the post of SHRC chairperson was vacant.

The selection committee headed by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani had provided recommendation according to which the Governor Acharya Devvrat had made the appointment of Mr. Tripathi as chairperson.
