Rihanna Sues Her Father Over Use Of Their Surname Fenty

By LawStreet News Network      17 January, 2019 12:00 AM      0 Comments

Famous international singer Rihanna has filed a lawsuit against her father, Ronald Fenty, in a dispute over the use of the Fenty name to further his entertainment business.

The pop star who has used the surname, Fenty for her cosmetics brand, Fenty Beauty, and other businesses, including Savage X Fenty and Fenty PUMA, since 2012 has alleged that her father is trading on their surname which she made famous, for financial gain.

In the lawsuit, the 30-year-old singer claimed that her father and his partner have violated her trademark and falsely suggested that their business, Fenty Entertainment, is affiliated with her.

Further, it was also argued that Fenty Entertainment attempted to book a 15-date Rihanna tour in South America, plus concerts in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, without her permission.

The lawsuit claims Rihanna owns trademarks in the US for the Fenty name and has sent formal "cease and desist" requests to Fenty but have been ignored.

Rihanna has asked the court to bar the firm from using the Fenty name for business and sought unspecified damages for false advertising and invasion of her rights of privacy and publicity.
