[COVID-19]: How SC Is Making Use Of Technology In The Wake Of Pandemic

As reported on 27th March, 2020 the Supreme Court of India is taking very urgent matters for hearing remotely. To carry out these proceedings, the judges are undertaking video conferencing and further assembling at the residence or chambers of one of the judges on the bench. The lawyers arguing for those matters are required to join in from their homes or offices via video conferencing.

"It was a very enriching experience and I think it is going to be the order of the day for the future. What was amazing was that there was absolutely no hitch or any break and the 45 minutes long hearing went on absolutely smoothly." Senior Counsel KV Vishwanathan said.

He further agreed that video conferencing is much more relaxing than the actual proceedings.

"Hearing through Video conferencing can be much more relaxing than the the Courtroom... What I would advise the lawyers is to be calm and patient and let the other person finish his conversation and then begin."

The platform decided was Vidyo, however alternative options of apps and planforms are kept open too in case of network linkage issues.

This is the first time in history when the Apex court proceedings are being conducted via video conferencing.
