Delhi HC suspends physical service email and WhatsApp preferred

In view of rapidly increasing Covid-19 cases in Delhi, the Delhi High Court has temporarily amended the process related to service of notice, summons and daks.

Chief Justice DN Patel, by the order dated June 3rd, has directed that all documents/ summons/ daks/ notices through physical mode be put to a stop, except when there’s a specific order to that effect by court.

It further directs that such documents can be supplied through fax, email or WhatsApp.

The order notes that the conventional method of physical service may be permitted to be restored once everything gets back to normal.

The order states that:

‘The necessary email address and details will be required to be provided by the concerned party seeking to effect the service. The process of sending documents through electronic mode will continue to be done by Despatch Branch/ Process Serving Agency in coordination with respective judicial branches and IT Branch from their seat only.’
