The Delhi High Court on Friday (30/04/2021)directed authorities to take immediate steps for the release of 170 oxygen concentrators, which were seized by the Delhi Police from the black market.
Senior Lawyer Sachin Puri, informed the HC about the oxygen cylinders when he was appearing in a PIL entitled Manisha Gupta Vs. GNCTD filed by advocates Praveen K Sharma & Dhananjay Grover.
The court said that, "While legal proceedings may continue, it is the need of the hour that these equipment are released by authorities without any delay. We direct the state to immediately take steps and release this equipment"
Formulation of policys to stop black marketing:
The petitioner sought direction to the Respondents to formulate a policy to ensure that all those who are indulging in malicious and malafide practices of hoarding and black marketing of essential medical equipments are met with the most strict and stringent punishment under relevant provisions of law.
The Petitioner also sought for the framing of a policy to streamline the process for applying for the essential items till the delivery of the same, which may be done through nodal officers so as to minimize the black-marketing or hoarding of essential items.
