SC to discontinue the usage of Whatsapp to share video conference links for hearings

In compliance with the new Information Technology (guidelines for intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, effective from March 1 2021, the SC has now been directed to discontinue the use of Whatsapp as a means to share video conference links for court hearings. 

As an alternative, such links shall be shared via authenticated e-mail IDs and registered mobile numbers of the concerned advocated on record or party in person. 

Furthermore, it was declared that social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter now have to delete ir disable "argumentative" content within 24 hours, including but not limited to posts on offences regarding the sovereignty of India, security, relations with other states etc.
