Tamil Nadu Human Resources Management Minister D Sarathkumar announced in the state Assembly on August 18 that women government employees will now receive 365 days of maternity leave for their third child up from 12 weeks, bringing it at par with the first two children. The decision follows Tamil Nadu's Total Fertility Rate falling below 1.4, well under the replacement level of 2.1.
