Set up COVID Quarantine Facilities in All Court Complexes for Judicial Officers, Advocates: TN & Puducherry Bar Council Writes to Madras HC Chief Justice

On March 15, 2021, the chairperson of the bar council of Tamil and Puducherry, PS Amalraj, sent a letter to Madras high court's justice Sanjib Banerjee asking to give directions to the government to establish isolate beds inside court campus for Judicial Officers, Advocates, Staffs and their relative affected by Coronavirus and to appoint of Nodal officials at Taluk and District levels for COVID-19 Helpline.

Focusing at recent times, there is no immediate facility to give treatment to the COVID-19 patients and surprisingly a few people are dying in the ambulance itself, the Bar Council has presented that because of the increment of the Covid-19 pandemic, a few Advocates have lost their lives and a few Advocates are taking treatment at different places all over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Therefore, the bar council states,

it is important to give emergent treatment to the Judicial Officers, Advocates, staff, and their relatives, who are all suffering during this pandemic period. It is our humble request that if Covid Centres comprising of tremendous beds and isolate beds upheld with oxygen are set up inside the court campuses throughout the territory of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and it will be convenient assistance and support for those affected by the virus."

The council also stated that the introduction of beds only for the Judicial Officers, Advocates, staff, and their relatives inside the court campus would be a high profit to them, and special care will be given to them to shield their lives. Further a similar will also assist the Government to tackle the inaccessibility of beds and their burden will be reduced. The Bar/Advocates Association will also join with them for the welfare of the Advocates and Staffs.

Further, the Council has mentioned that essential directions might be given to the Government to take prompt ways to establish Covid-19 Helpline or the Judicial Officers, Advocates, and Staff.

In this manner, the Chief Justice has been mentioned accordingly:

  • To give important directions to the government to establish isolate beds upheld with oxygen inside the court campus through the state of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and;
  • To select Committee/Nodal Officer at each Taluk and District base camp for COVID-19 Helpline to defend the lives of Judicial Officers, Advocates, and Staffs.
