Senior Advocate V. Shekhar, who practiced before the Supreme Court of India today passed away due to COVID-19.
He was born in Delhi and studied commerce before obtaining an LL.B. degree from the University of Delhi, as well as a post-graduate degree in Political Science from the same institution. He began studying law in 1980 after becoming a member of the Delhi Bar Council. He has appeared before the Supreme Court in cases including civil, taxation (direct and indirect), service law, corporate law, criminal, arbitration, and constitution, as well as administrative law.
In 2006, Advocate Shekhar was designated as a Senior Advocate, and he has served on the Supreme Court's panel of Senior Counsels for the Government of India since that period. He was Special Senior Counsel for the Government in 2012, and he was elected as a senior member of the Supreme Court Bar Association's Executive Committee in 2007-2008, 2008-2009, and 2011-2012, and twice served as Vice-President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA).
He had won several prizes and honours from national and international organisations and societies for his accomplishments in the profession, sports, literature, and other fields. He was also a member of INSOL and the International Bar Association in London.
