Steps being taken to make Supreme Courts operations completely paperless CJI DY Chandrachud

NEW DELHI: Chief justice of the Supreme Court DY Chandrachud indicated that steps are being taken to make Supreme Court’s operations completely paperless.

Apart from reducing carbon footprint, doing away with paper will help in making judicial processes more efficient, seamless and accountable, the CJI said.

“It is not just about reducing the carbon footprint which is very important in itself but making our processes more efficient, seamless, accountable and it is better to monitor various stages in the process in the Registry. So, we are continuing with our mission to make our operations completely paperless."

The judge further added that all files, including the ones that are administrative reach him virtually.

“We have to take it (going paperless) further, there are many departments in the supreme court which are paperless. All my files come to me, even the administrative files come in e-office. I hope that we continue this movement so that we do away with paper”.

The Judge was speaking to the media after inaugurating the new Consultation Room and the Arbitration Room at the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court will provide all the facilities related to Arbitration and mediation proceedings in these rooms such as a meeting facility, video conferencing facility etc.

With the additional facilities, lawyers would be better prepared and dignified conditions to work in.

"I am very happy to be here with my senior colleagues who have joined us this evening for inaugurating the Consultation Room and the Arbitration Room in this block (at the Supreme Court). This is a very important facility for lawyers because when lawyers have good facilities, in terms of the infrastructure which we create you would expect that the lawyers will be better prepared, they will have dignified conditions to work and I think this is very crucial since the Bar is a vital stakeholder in our judicial process. This is the beginning of many such initiatives which we are about to unveil..."
