Congress Manifesto On Review Of Laws, Rules & Regulations Is Old Wine In New Bottle: AoR Nitin Mishra, SC

Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the Indian National Congress on April 2, 2019, released its Manifesto containing oodles of legal reforms that the Party pledges to bring.

Significant or not? These legal reforms have definitely become a topic of debate amongst the people belonging to the legal fraternity.

Speaking to LawStreet Journal, Advocate-on-Record, Nitin Mishra said that “The Congress manifesto on Review of Laws, Rules and Regulations seems to be old wine in new bottle.  The manifesto definitely seems to offer a few radical reforms for Judiciary which will definitely have to undergo the test of judicial and constitutional scrutiny.”

The Congress in its manifesto has promised to make the Supreme Court a Constitutional Court and to establish a Court of Appeal to hear appeals from judgments and orders of High Courts. The Party has also called for a National Judicial Commission (NJC) to appoint judges in the higher judiciary.
