Samia Naseem, Indian American was appointed as the immigration judge in the District of Columbia after a thorough application process by Attorney General William Barr. Taking her oath in December, 2019 she will serve in Chicago Immigration Court with hearings beginning early this year. She is a member of the New York Bar Association.

Judge Naseem pursued her Bachelor of Arts from Simmons College in 2001 and Juris Doctor from The George Washington University Law School in 2004. She served as a law clerk for the Honorable Judith N. Macaluso until 2005. After this she went on to work as an attorney at the Law Offices of Khalid Naseem, Boylston, Massachusetts until 2007. Later, until the year 2010, she served as a trial attorney with the Office of Immigration Litigation, Department of Justice, in the District of Columbia. She served as an assistant chief counsel, office of Chief Counsel, Office of the Principal Legal Advisor, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Department of Homeland Security, in New York and Chicago. In a short span of time, she has appeased people with her hard work and diligence. The wide variety of work that she has done is nothing short of an inspiration. This daughter of India has made the country proud and set an example for everyone.

Apart from Judge Naseem, 27 other judges were also sworn in by the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR). The appointment has lead to immigration judge corps with more than 465 judges on the bench to its highest level in history. This move has been brought to clear the huge number of backlog of cases, because as said by William Goldstone, “justice delayed is justice denied”.
