Deadline To File I-T Returns Extended To August 31 [Read Order]

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on July 23, 2019, exercising its powers conferred under Section 119 of the Income Tax Act, 1961, has extended the due date for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) by individuals for the assessment year 2019-20 to August 31, 2019 from July 31, 2019.

"The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) extends the 'due date' for filing of Income Tax Returns from July 31, 2019 to August 31, 2019 in respect of the said categories of taxpayers," the finance ministry said in a statement.

Reportedly, the extension comes after the government was appealed by many entities to extend the ITR filing date so as to allow sufficient time to tax payers to file their returns.
