Show Cause Notices Issued For Closure To Flipkart, Patanjali For Flouting Plastic Waste Management Rules: CPCB Tells NGT [READ REPORT]

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) submitted a report before the National Green Tribunal (NGT) that manufacturers and e-commerce websites like Flipkart and Patanjali are not complying with the provisions of the Public Waste Management Rules, 2016 and are excessively using plastic packaging material. They are also not registered with the Central Pollution Control Board. Thus, action should be taken against them ordering the closure of their operations and imposing compensation for the same.

Another petition was filed against 10 firms including Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages, Bisleri International, Indian Railway Catering & Tourism. It stated that out of these 10 firms many are already registered with CPCB and many are newly registered. Thus, they should be required to submit their progress reports which shall be audited by a committee specifically for conducting Environmental Audit.

The report also stated that the producers who are carrying on their work without Registration from the Central Pollution Control Board must register themselves as soon as possible and can clarify doubts if any. If registration is not done then action can be taken against them as per provisions of Public Waste Management (PWM) Rules, 2018 which may include the closure of their business and even imposing compensation.
