MG Motor India, Tata Power Join Hands to Deploy Superfast Chargers for EVs At Select Locations

On Monday 8th June 2020, MG Motor India said that it has joined hands with Tata Power in setting up superfast electric vehicle (EV) chargers at select MG dealerships and offering end-to-end charging solutions to its dealers across India. 

Tata Power will deploy 50KW DC superfast chargers in selected MG dealerships as part of the association, in addition to offering end-to-end electric vehicle charging solutions, the company announced in a statement.

Through this association, MG Motor aims to focus specifically on the key target cities that they will be foraying into as part of their plans to expand their EV. 

Both MG ZS EV customers and other EV owners whose automobiles are compatible with the CCS / CHAdeMO charging standards will be able to access these superfast 50KW DC chargers, "The company further said.

Combined Charging System (CCS) and CHAdeMO are two different standards used globally for charging EVs. 

MG Motor India President and CEO Rajeev Chaba stated that in addition to strengthening our commitment to India, they plan to provide customers with a robust charging ecosystem to encourage the adoption of cleaner and greener mobility solutions.

Tata Power Company Ltd CEO and Managing Director Praveer Sinha further added that the company will partner with MG Motor India as an end-to-end EV charging partner through the partnership as well as work on the future second life of battery use.

"As India's leading integrated player in the EV charging space, we aim to provide customers a seamless charging experience. We are confident that this partnership with MG Motor will further boost our country's ability to adopt the electrified range of vehicles that MG Motor has to offer," he added.

MG Motor India has already declared that it has 10 SuperFast 50 kW charging stations across its dealerships in five cities-New Delhi- NCR, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad and is expanding them into more cities.

On the other hand, under the brand EZ Charge, Tata Power has established an elaborate EV Charging ecosystem with over 180 charging points in 19 different cities along with digital platforms to facilitate customer experience with ease and smoothness.  

"The MG-Tata Power partnership will involve core values and operating model in line with their existing customer-centric approach including exploring the possibility of 2nd life management of EV batteries," the statement said.

Recently, the Tata Group company has disclosed its substantial investment plan of expanding its network of smart EV charging points to around 700 from current 170 by FY21under the Brand name of Tata Power EZ Charge.

MG Motor India, however, already has an aggregate of 10 Superfast 50 kW charging stations throughout its dealerships in 5 cities i.e. Fresh Delhi / NCR, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. Now, the company's EV charging network is expanding to include more cities. Tata Power, on the other hand, has also established an EV charging ecosystem with over 180 charging points in nineteen different cities.
