Misleading advts case Baba Ramdev Balkrishna tender apology

NEW DELHI: Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev and Patanjali MD Acharya Balkrishna have expressed unconditional and unqualified apology before the Supreme Court for publishing misleading advertisements violating the undertaking given to the Court.

A bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah would hear the contempt plea against them on April 10.

In the affidavit, Baba Ramdev and Balkrishna said they would comply with the SC's order in letter and spirit, and also uphold the majesty of law and justice.

Patanjali Ayurved had assured the Supreme Court that it would not violate any law, especially those related to advertising or branding of products manufactured and marketed by it.

The company had also given an assurance that "no casual statements claiming medicinal efficacy or against any system of medicine will be released to the media in any form".

Both Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna also tendered an unconditional and unqualified apology for the press conference of November 22, 2023 and undertook not to make any public statements which may amount to breach of the undertaking given as recorded by the SC.

In his affidavit, Baba Ramdev said, I hereby tender an unconditional and unqualified apology for the breach of the statement recorded in the order of this court dated November 21, 2023. I further undertake and ensure that the said statement shall be complied with in letter and spirit and no such similar advertisements shall be issued. I further tender my unconditional and unqualified apology for the press conference held on November 22, 2023. I regret this lapse and assure that the same will not be repeated again in future.

I seek pardon for the breach of the statement. I undertake to always uphold the Majesty of Law and Majesty of Justice," he said.

On April 02, SC had come down heavily upon both Ramdev and Balkrishna who appeared in person before the court.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) filed a petition in SC seeking action against them for criticising Allopathy.
