Tata sons General Counsel, who defended them against Mistry, quits

Tata sons General Counsel, who defended them against Mistry, quits.

Shuva Mandal, after the service of four years as general counsel of Tata Sons, has decided to step down to pursue private practice. Mandals stepping down is followed by his recent win for Tata sons against the companys Ex Chairman, Cyrus Mistry in a corporate case in the Supreme Court.

Mandal was recruited from Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, a law firm in Mumbai, specifically to battle Mistry in a legal suite, who was removed from the top position after a fallout with patriarch, Ratan Tata.  An alumnus of National Law School, Bengaluru, Mandal replaced seventeen-year Tata Sons veteran Bharat Vasani in 2017, becoming one of the youngest general counsel in corporate India.

Mandal also represents Tata Sons interests on the boards of direct-to-home company Tata Sky, and Air Asia, which is the budget carrier.

Under Chairman N Chadrasekaran, Mandal will be the third person to exit from the Tata Sons management team after Shane Fitzsimons and S Jaishankar.

For the post of General Counsel, Tata sons will have to look for a new candidate to hire and replace Mandal.
