Goa Cops Charge Milind Soman

On Friday (6 October 2020), a case was registered against Milind Soman, a day after Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM) lodged a complaint for obscenity.

Goa Police have registered a case against a model-actor for allegedly promoting obscenity after he recently posted a naked picture of himself running on a beach in Goa to mark his birthday.

The charges booked against Milind Soman fall under: Section 294 of Indian Penal Code, 1860 which states obscene act in a public place and under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000 which states Punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form after the complaint is filed by Goa Suraksha Manch, as informed by Superintendent of Police (South Goa) Pankaj Kumar Singh. The offence under Section 294 of Indian Penal Code, 1860 is punishable with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three months, or with fine, or with both.

Milind Soman had shared his own picture on his Instagram Profile which showed him running on the beach as a mark of his 55th birthday. In his post, Milind Soman gave photo credits to his wife Ankita Konwar.

The GSM in its complaint has alleged that the model had indulged in obscenity at a public place. It is also said that the picture projected Goa in a wrong manner.
