Kangana Ranaut Moves Karnataka HC to quash FIR against her tweets opposing farmers laws

Actress Kangana Ranaut recently moved the High Court of Karnataka with the want to quash the FIR registered against her for the tweets that she posted on her social media account on the farmers, opposing such laws.

On October 9 2020, a direction to register an FIR against the actress was given by a Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) at Tumkur to Kyathasandra Police Station.

Advocate Ramesh Naik filed the complaint under Section 156(3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure Act, 1973 against a message posted by @KanganaTeam, the actresss official twitter handle, on September 21 2020.

The complainant said, People who spread misinformation and rumours about CAA that caused riots are the same people who are now spreading misinformation about Farmers bill and causing terror in the nation, they are Terrorists. You very well know what I said but simply like to spread misinformation

It was alleged that the message twitter was done with the intention of hurting the people who were opposing the Farmers Bills, moreover, provoking people with the intention of starting and causing a riot. The message is seen as an attempt to promote non-violent culture amongst young.

It is believed that the tweet being referred to in this matter, might lead to colliding of various different groups. Advocate Naik submits to the Court that, neither the government or nor police officer had taken any action against the accused, the actress, for doing such activities and further no suo-moto action has been taken. Therefore, the complaint taking action against the actress by filing a FIR for offences as mentioned under the provisions Section 153A, 504, 108of the Indian Penal Code, 1860

The petition is yet to be taken up at Court but shall probably be heard in due time.
