Taxi driver Arrested by Kolkata Police for passing lewd comments against TMC MP Mimi Chakraborty

On Tuesday, September 15, 2020, Kolkata police arrested a taxi driver who made lewd comments against TMC MP Mimi Chakraborty. 

The occurrence of the incident took place near Ballygunge Phari area when Mimi was returning home from her GYM. It was observed by Mrs. Chakraborty that the taxi driver allegedly passed lewd comments at her and drove past her vehicle and overtook it in an inebriated manner. 

The taxi driver has been arrested by Kolkata Police on Tuesday afternoon. 

She reported to the police about the event and told them that first, she ignored the matter but when the taxi driver did the act twice, she followed and chased the vehicle and got hold of him.  

I was in my car when I noticed one taxi next to my car and the driver was making gestures at me. First, I ignored it. But then when he overtook my car and did the same gesture again. I felt if I ignore this right now some other women may face harassment if she takes a ride in his taxi. They wont be safe in his taxi at night, the actress and TMC MP said in an audio statement. 

Mimi then lodged a complaint at Gariahat Police Station. The driver has been booked under Section 354, 354A, 354D, 509, and other relevant Section Indian Penal Code, 1860, following which the police arrested the driver. The accused has been identified as Laxman Yadav aged 32, a resident of the Anandapur area near the Eastern Metropolitan bypass.
