SC Grants Interim Protection to Poonam Pandey in Film Case [Read Order]

Poonam Pandey Pornographic film case

Poonam Shobhanath Pandey, an actress and model, was given temporary protection from arrest on Tuesday in a porn video case in which Raj Kundra, the husband of fellow actress Shilpa Shetty, is one of the key defendants [Poonam Shobhanath Pandey v. State of Maharashtra].

Pandey's appeal against the Bombay High Court's rejection of her plea was given notice by a bench of Justices Vineet Saran and BV Nagarathna.

"The appellant was not subjected to any coercion. Publish a notification, "The Court made the decision.

Pandey had applied for anticipatory bail in connection with the porn racket case in which Raj Kundra, actress Shilpa Shetty's husband, had been detained.

On November 25, 2021, the Bombay High Court denied Pandey's request for relief, prompting an appeal to the Supreme Court.

The case stemmed from a complaint filed by Madhukar Krishan Keni against obscene material on several websites and online platforms.

While Pandey is not a partner or owner of any of those platforms, the accusation against her is that some video betraying her is available on some of those websites, according to her plea.

Pandey stated in her plea that she was a victim and not a defendant in this case. It was also stated that the Central government has already blacklisted all footage of Pandey on various porn websites back in 2015.

Pandey was represented by advocate on record Soayib Qureshi, advocate Sandeep Bajaj, and advocate Aditya Chopra (Managing Partner - Victoriam Legalis, Advocates & Solicitors).
