The Title 'Prithviraj Hurts Sentiments Of the Rajput Community": Karni Sena to Allahabad HC

Prithviraj Rajput Community Karni Sena Allahabad High Court

Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena's National Vice President (Women Wing) has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Allahabad High Court to stop the release of the film 'Prithviraj,' starring Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chhillar.

Sangeeta Singh, National Vice President of the Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena (Women's Wing) and a practising lawyer in the Supreme Court, filed the petition alleging that the film was titled 'Prithviraj' instead of 'Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan,'. The same is sending a wrong message to society and hurting the religious sentiments and beliefs of the Rajput community.

The petition claims that the respondents (Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi, Aditya Chopra, and M/S Yash Raj Films Private Limited) have not only shown disrespect to the Great Indian Historical King by simply naming/titling the film "Prithviraj" (instead of "Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan"), but have also hurt the religious sentiments and beliefs of Hindus across the country.

Respondents have attempted to discredit and disparage the ancient warrior Hindu king who gave his life for the safety and security of Hindustan, according to the Karni Sena.

The plea also takes issue with the actress Manushi Chillar's costume in the film (in which she plays Queen Sanyogita), as stated in the plea:

"In the teaser of the movie reveals the false presentation regarding abduction of the Queen Sanyogita by the Prithviraj for want of glamour and charm in order to promote the glamour and attract public at large by the respondents commercially approach and gain due to that disregarded and twisted the facts about the culture and practice of the Rajasthani Rajputs and has insulted the Queen Sanyogita identity as shown in history and well known to everyone of the society belongs to Rajput community and Rajasthan at large...In the teaser of the movie reveals the false presentation regarding abduction of the Queen Sanyogita by the Prithviraj for want of glamour and charm in order to promote the glamour and attract public at large by the respondents commercially approach and gain due to that disregarded and twisted the facts about the culture and practice of the Rajasthani Rajputs and has insulted the Queen Sanyogita identity as shown in history and well known to everyone of the society belongs to Rajput community and Rajasthan at large".

Significantly, the petitioner stated on February 2 before a Bench of Justice Attau Rahman Masoodi and Justice Narendra Kumar Johari that the trailer for the recently released film shows king Prithviraj Chauhan in a demeaning manner, which has wounded her feelings as a Rajput.

After hearing the petitioner's arguments, the Bench asked the federal government whether the film "Prithviraj" had been approved by the Central Board of Film Certification and listed the matter for hearing in the week of February 21, 2022.

The Censor Board, film director Chandraprakash Dwivedi, producer Aditya Chopra, and actor Akshay Kumar have all been named as respondent parties in the lawsuit. In addition to the Central and State governments.

The petition also claims that multiple requests for the film's shooting to be halted were made to the state and federal governments. Still, no action was taken by the authorities concerned.
