Swara Bhaskar files complaint against Twitter User, YouTube influencer over defamatory comments

Bollywood actress Swara Bhaskar recently filed a complaint alleging a Twitter user and YouTube influencer of carrying an intention to outrage her modesty.

Swara Bhaskar is a well-known bollywood celebrity, who performed many movies and web-series drama. She is also a well versed actress. 

Recently Swara Bhaskar was trollef on social media platforms including Twitter and YouTube. She therefore filed a complaint alleging that a Twitter user and YouTube influencer havr been circultating some messages on social platform with intention to outraging her modesty. She further claimed some hashtags have been circulated with regard to some movie scene. 

A criminal case has been registered on the basis of this complaint at Vasant Kunj North Police station in Delhi and investigation is being carried on.

Charges in the case are imposed under Sections  354D, 509 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 and  Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

Section 345D of Indian Penal Code deals with the offence of stalking. According to it, it can be an offence by a man against a woman. 

Section 359 of the Indian Penal Code deals with intending to insult the modesty of any woman. 

Section 67 in the Information Technology Act, 2000 deals with the crime of publishing or transmitting obscene material through the internet. The section defines obscene material as any material which is lascivious or appeals to the prurient interest or if its effect is such as to tend to deprave and corrupt persons. The crime carries a punishment of a fine of up to Rs. 10 lakh and imprisonment of up to five years.
