Tamil Nadu government writes to Prakash Javadekar, requesting that The Family Man Season 2 be banned as it contains

Manoj Bajpayee's Amazon Prime Video Series the Family Man Season 2 has already landed in hot water. The Raj and DK show, according to the Tamil Nadu government, "depicts the Eelam Tamils in a highly objectionable manner."

The series created by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K. is slated to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on June 4th.

However, ahead of it's release, the Tamil Nadu government asked the Centre on Monday (May 24, 2021) to take urgent action to either halt or prohibit the release of The Family Man 2 webseries on Amazon Prime, claiming that it portrayed Eelam Tamils in an "extremely unacceptable way."

Tamil Nadu IT Minister T Mano Thangaraj said the trailer released on social media was aimed at discrediting and distorting the Eelam Tamils' historical struggle in Sri Lanka, claiming there were "condemnable, unacceptable, and malicious contents" in the series.

I'd like to draw your attention to the offensive, improper, and malicious material of The Family Man 2 Hindi serial, which portrays Eelam Tamils in a highly offensive manner. The trailer for the above-mentioned serial, which was released on social media, is intended to ridicule and misinterpret the historical struggle of Eelam Tamils in Sri Lanka, a part of the letter read.

In another section of the two-page letter, the state government claims that casting Samantha Akkineni, a "Tamil-speaking star," as a terrorist is just another deliberate blunder by the filmmakers. Blaming Tamil-speaking actress Samantha as a terrorist in the serial, for example, is a direct assault on the patriotism of Tamils all over the world, and no one can tolerate this kind of inspired and mischievous campaign, the letter read.

In the circumstances, I urge you to take immediate action either to avoid or ban the release of The Family Man 2 in OTT, Amazon Prime not only in Tamil Nadu but also across the country, the letter concluded, urging the broadcast ministry to look into the matter.
