Cheque Bounce Case: Convict Gets 2 Years Imprisonment, Complainant Rs. 26 Lakh Compensation

On Saturday (7th November 2020), a court in Anantnag District of South Kashmir sentenced a man to 2 years imprisonment & also directed him to pay a compensation of Rs. 26 lakhs to the complainant. This judgment was given in relation to a cheque bounce case.

The Court of Judicial Magistrate, Fayaz Ahmad Qureshi, after hearing the lawyers from both sides i.e.for the complainant & for the accusedsaid that the accused Syed Fareed Ahmad of NowgamVerinag has violated the object of law on negotiable instruments.

The accused shall undergo 2 years imprisonment which would comprise one-year rigorous imprisonment & also one-year simple imprisonment according to the Court.

The Court said, He shall pay Rs 26 lakh to the complainant as compensation, which is double the cheque amount he had issued and further the Court added that, The amount of compensation shall be paid by the accused within one month from the date of this judgment failing which it shall be recovered in accordance with the law.
