Crime Branch Unravels Rohit Tiwari's Murder Mystery, Wife Arrested

The Crime Branch has solved the sensational murder mystery of Rohit Shekhar Tiwari who was found murdered in his Defence Colony house on April 16, 2019.

The police have arrested Apoorva Shukla Tiwari 35 years the deceased's wife.

Rohit 40 years the son of veteran Congress leader Narayan Dutt Tiwari was rushed to Max Hospital Saket where the doctors declared him brought dead. The police took into custody the dead body and sent it to AIIMS for postmortem examination. When the probe progressed, it was found that Rohit was the only child of Ujjawla Tiwari and Late N.D. Tiwari.

On April 10, 2019, Rohit left Delhi along with his mother and others to cast his vote at Kathgodam, Uttarakhand. His wife, Apoorva stayed behind. They returned from Kathgodam late at night on April 15, 2019. Rohit consumed liquor all the way back and managed to finish the whole bottle with a lady relative in the car. After dinner, the family retired to their respective rooms to rest. Apoorva and Rohit slept in separate bedrooms. The next day, April 16, 2019, around 4 in the evening, Rohit was found unconscious in his bed by a servant. He was taken to the hospital where he was declared brought dead.

"The PM report speaks of the cause of death due to asphyxiation, smothering and strangulation. Some other injuries on the body indicated it a case of murder," Rajiv Ranjan Additional Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch spoke.

Case FIR No. 76/19 dated 17.4.19 under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, PS Defence Colony was registered in this regard and investigation was taken up by the Crime Branch.

A team comprising ACP Arvind Kumar and ACP Anil Dureja, Inspectors Satish Kumar, Abhinendra, Mukesh, SI. Sandeep, SI. Praveen Atri, Woman SI Khushboo, SI Yograj, ASI Brahm Dev, ASI Rajender and others led by Dr Joy Tirkey DCP Crime was constituted.

"The investigation further revealed that Rohit and Apoorva both lawyers by profession got married on May 11, 2018, through a marriage portal. The couple seemed to have had a fallout and Apoorva left for her parental home in Indore on 29.5.18. After this, the distance between the two widened. Apoorva spent more time away from her husbands house in Defence Colony. The marriage soured was on the rocks following the rift that yawned over a period of few months. The cops zeroed in on Apoorva after several spells of 'questioning' and sustained interrogation, Apoorva broke down and confessed to having killed her husband. She had smothered and strangulated him on his bed on the fateful night," Ranjan concluded briefing the press.
