Delhi Court Extends Judicial Custody of Wrestler Sushil Kumar, suspect in Chhatrasal Stadium Murder Case, Till June 25, 2021

Reliever Metropolitan Magistrate Reetika Jain of Delhi District Court in an order pronounced on Friday, June 11th, 2021, extended the judicial custody of Olympic wrestler Sushil Kumar and his associate Ajay Kumar in connection with the murder of junior wrestler champion Sagar Dhankhar upon the completion of his 9 days judicial custody.

Earlier this week, wrestler Sushil Kumar moved the Court seeking supplementary diet inside the jail, that was dismissed the court, stating, It is well settled law that all the persons, whether natural or juristic are equal in the eyes of law irrespective of their caste,religion, sex, class, etc. Right to equality is a basic feature of Indian Constitution. The law should be equal and should be equally administered, that like should be treated alike." 


The court also observed that the basic needs and necessities of the accused are being taken care of as per the provisions of Delhi Prisons Rule, 2018 and the alleged food and supplements requested by the accused/applicant appears to be only desires and wishes and not essential needs or necessity.

Wrestler Sushil Kumar and associate, Ajay Kumar, a physical education teacher at Chhatrasal Stadium, were arrested by the Delhi Police on Sunday , May 23rd, 2021 in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Sagar Rana.

 The Delhi Police had registered the FIR against the wrestler under Sections 302(punishment for murder), 308( attempt to commit culpable homicide) 365(punishment for kidnapping), 323,325(punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 342(punishment for wrongful confinement), 506(punishment for criminal intermediation), 288(negligence with respect to repairing buildings) , 269, 34(common intention), and 120B( punishment for criminal conspiracy) of IPC along with Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.
