Patiala: The Delhi police today filed an action taken report in a sealed cover before the Delhis Patiala House Court in a plea moved by former Mumbai zonal director of the Narcotics Control Bureau, Sameer Wankhede. He moved an application before the Delhi court against Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Deputy Director General Gyaneshwar Singh alleging offences of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. Wankhede, in his compliant, seeks the registration of First Information Report (FIR) against Singh.
The court has directed police to supply a copy of the report to Wankhede and listed the matter for further hearing on March 7.
Wankhede lodged a complaint with the Mumbai police on July 18, 2023, which was later transferred to Delhi. Despite repeated requests, the Delhi Police allegedly failed to register the FIR or take the necessary action, which prompted Wankhede to approach the court.
Delhi Polices report comes after a direction to that effect was passed by the Court earlier in February. Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Devender Kumar Jangala of Patiala House Court had directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, South West District, Delhi, to submit the Action Taken Report by February 27.
Wankhede had alleged harassment charges against the IPS officer. The complaint alleged that during the inquiry, Singh humiliated Wankhede for being a member of the Scheduled Caste, threatened to ensure his job loss, and leaked details of the inquiry to media outlets, leading to a social boycott and humiliation of a Scheduled Caste family.
