Delhi Police registers FIR against TMC MP Mahua Moitra for Derogatory Post on NCW Chief Rekha Sharma

New Delhi: Delhi Police has filed an FIR against TMC MP Mahua Moitra for a 'derogatory' post about the NCW chief. Moitra is charged under Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), which deals with actions intended to outrage a woman's modesty, as confirmed by DCP (PRO) Suman Nalwa.

The IFSO unit of Delhi Police registered the FIR against Krishnanagar TMC MP Mahua Moitra over her remarks about National Commission of Women (NCW) chief Rekha Sharma. Moitra has been booked under Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) that pertains to work, gesture, or act intending to outrage the modesty of a woman, said DCP (PRO) Suman Nalwa.

Previously, NCW had taken suo motu cognizance of Moitras remarks and sought an FIR against her. On July 4, Moitra posted a video on X showing Sharma arriving at the site of a stampede in Hathras, which was later deleted. The post showed a man holding an umbrella and walking behind Sharma.

An FIR should be registered against Moitra and a detailed action report should be communicated to the Commission within 3 days, the NCW said in a post on X.

Responding to NCWs post, Moitra wrote: Come on Delhi Police please take action immediately on suo motu orders. Am in Nadia in case you need me in next 3 days to make a quick arrest. I Can Hold My Own Umbrella.
