Gold Smuggling Case: Special Court Extends Sivasankars Custody by Six Days

The Special Court on Thursday (5th October, 2020) extended the custody of the Enforcement Directorates M Sivasankar by six weeks in relation to his arrest last week in connection with the alleged money laundering and Kerala gold smuggling case.

The ED moved the application in the special MLA Court for seeking seven more days of custody of Sivasankar to probe details of communication between him and Swapna Suresh, prime accused in the sensational gold smuggling case, as he was produced before it after seven-day custody granted to the agency ended on Thursday ( November 6, 2020).

The ED has alleged that Sivasankar had intervened to clear the diplomatic baggage containing smuggled gold without examination by the customs at the Thrivanthapuram International airport.

The National Investigation Agency, ED and Customs are conducting separate investigations into the seizure of gold worth nearly Rs 15 crore from a diplomatic baggage of UAE consulate.

On November 02, 2020, ED has sought details from all the projects of the government initiated by the suspended IAS officer M Sivashankar.
