Junior Civil Judge Arrested on Rape Charges

By LawStreet News Network      16 August, 2018 12:00 AM      0 Comments

A junior civil judge practicing in Thungathurthi Court in Suryapet district of Telangana was arrested by police on an accusation of raping a 29-year-old advocate practicing in the same court.

The woman advocate belonging to a tribal community has alleged that Justice Satyanarayana Rao, 28, sexually exploited her after promising her a marriage. He reportedly got engaged to another woman last month.

The Judge was produced in a local court by the police, after taking permission from the Hyderabad High Court as the procedure mandates. The local court then sent Satyanarayana to judicial remand.

Based on the complaint, a case of rape (section 376), cheating (section 420) under the Indian Penal Code, 1860 and provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 was registered against the accused judge on August 3, 2018.
