Man Wanted In Murder Caught

A murder case that almost went blind for once has been worked out by the staff of PS Sarita Vihar. The police arrested one Taufiq alias Sonu 28 years for the murder of a 35-year-old man at Jasola, Sarita Vihar.

A PCR call informing of a man lying in an unconscious state in a car near Omaxe Square Mall, Jasola was received at PS Sarita Vihar. Soon after that the police team rushed to the spot and found a man lying in the driver seat with a bottle of liquor in his hand. He was injured and immediately rushed to the Apollo hospital where he was declared brought dead. This does not appear to be the case of robbery as his belongings comprising the wallet, cash and mobile phone were found intact.

The man murdered was identified as Mohammad Rashid 35 years of Fazal Enclave, Jamia Nagar.

The post mortem at AIIMS confirmed murder as a bullet was found lodged in the head of the deceased. Accordingly, a case of murder vide FIR no. 77/19, under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, was registered and investigation was initiated.

A team led by SHO Sarita Vihar inspector Ajab Singh, inspector Suman Kumar comprising SI Benkatesh, SI Nagendra Nagar and ASI Khalil was constituted under the supervision of Dhal Singh, ACP sub-division Sarita Vihar.

During investigation of the case, the District Crime Team and team of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) inspected the vehicle of the deceased. CCTV footages of the area were checked. The relatives of the deceased and other known persons were examined. Technical surveillance was also mounted.

"During scrutiny of the CCTV footages, the deceased was last seen outside a liquor shop at Jasola with one Taufiq aka Sonu. As the probe progressed, Taufiq said that he was known to Rashid and his wife for the past many years. At the time of the incident, they both consumed liquor then he left the spot and had no clue about his death, he disclosed. On sustained interrogation, Tauffiq's statements failed to corroborate. When he was contradicted with his movements, he broke down and confessed to the crime." DCP SE district Chinmoy Biswal said.

It's known that he had an altercation with the deceased as he wanted to settle an old score with him.

A few months ago, during a family function, an altercation took place between Rashid and Taufiq over some matter, Rashid slapped Taufiq. The latter felt insulted and decided to take revenge upon him by eliminating him.

"Taufiq procured a pistol from some illegal sources. He went to the house of Rashid. He got to know that Rashid had gone to a liquor vend at Jasola. Taufiq met him at a liquor shop there. There they both roamed together and consumed liquor in the car of Rashid. When Taufiq sensed that Rashid got drunk beyond his senses he fired at him in the head and fled the scene," Biswal concluded.

The accused Taufiq is a mechanical engineer by profession. He lived with his wife and kids in Palwal. He had been out of work for some time. The case has been registered and further investigation is underway. The police are trying to recover the pistol used in the commission of crime and the source of its procurement.
