Pastor Bajinder Singh Sentenced to Life Imprisonment in 2018 Rape Case by Mohali Court

Mohali: A Mohali court has sentenced Pastor Bajinder Singh to life imprisonment for a rape case dating back to 2018. The verdict was pronounced on Tuesday by Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Vikrant Kumar. The court found the pastor guilty under Sections 376 (rape), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The case stemmed from allegations that Singh sexually assaulted a woman in 2018, following which legal proceedings were initiated. Last week, the court had pronounced him guilty, and the sentencing followed soon after.

The case gained significant attention due to Singh’s influence as a self-styled religious leader. His arrest and subsequent trial sparked discussions about the misuse of power by influential figures.

The prosecution presented strong evidence against Singh, leading to his conviction. Following the sentencing, legal experts believe that this case sets a precedent for holding influential individuals accountable for their actions.

Some reports indicate that Singh’s legal team may consider appealing the decision in a higher court. Meanwhile, the victim and her supporters have welcomed the court’s decision, stating that it is a step toward justice.

The case highlights the importance of legal action against sexual crimes, irrespective of the accused’s social or religious standing.
