Spl. Cell Catches Robber After Brief Encounter In East Delhi

Acting on a tip-off about a man coming with his associate to east Delhi with intent to commit an armed robbery. The alert team of Special Cell chased him and asked him to surrender, he instead sped off opening fire (two rounds) on the police party in order to scare the chasing cops away but the police too had to reply in the same coin and eventually overpowered after a brief encounter at NH 24 near Akshardham temple.

In an exchange of fire, the cop shot the man identified as Rehan alias Shamim in the leg he lost control of the bike Hero Honda Splendour and fell down. He was rushed to LBS (Lal Bahadur Shastri) hospital and discharged soon after. Further probe into this case is underway.

His associate Mohammad Mujeeb wanted in 8 cases of robbery was arrested 15 days ago he disclosed that his associate Rehan and others were planning to commit an armed robbery in Delhi.

Rehan was out on bail in dacoity case with FIR number 167/2018 under Sections 395/397/120B of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, and Sections 25/27 of the Arms Act, 1959, PS Preet Vihar, Delhi in which he along with his four associates Mohammad Taj, Sawez, Daud and Faisal looted 8.9 lakh and valuables at gun point from a trader of Gandhi Nagar, Delhi. They used stolen bikes for this crime. He admitted saying that he with his friend was going to commit an armed robbery in the area.

The police have recovered one 7.65 mm sophisticated pistol along with 3 live and 2 empty cartridges and one stolen motor cycle from PS Rani Bagh area.
