Sub-Inspector Shot Dead By Her Own Batchmate Near Rohini Metro Station

In a heart-wrenching incident that took place yesterday (7 February, 2020), a sub-inspector was allegedly shot dead in north-west Delhi by her batch mate from the academy.

The sub-inspector Preeti Ahlawat, 26 was walking home from the Rohini Metro Station on Friday night when Dipanshu Rathi shot her three times. Ahalawat was shot in the head and died on the spot. Three cartridges have been found from the spot, Senior Police Officer SD Mishra said.

The accused, who was also from the 2018 batch, allegedly committed suicide in Sonepat, Haryana after killing the sub-inspector. We found Dipanshu's body from his car in Murthal in Sonipat. The vehicle was locked from inside with the headlights on, the officer said.

Preeti Ahlawat was posted at the Patparganj Industrial Area police station in east Delhi and lived in a rented accommodation near Rohini. The sub-inspector hailed from Sonepat herself.

Dipanshu Rathi, also a sub-inspector was in love with Ahlawat, who did not reciprocate his feelings and had turned down his marriage proposal. Unhappy with this the accused sought to take revenge.

The killing took place on the eve of the Delhi assembly elections where tight security arrangements have been made, given the sensitive situation of the city due to ongoing protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019.
